Last Days In Louisiana

There are so many things that we love about Louisiana. But at the top of the list is the fine people that are there. We were blessed to have some amazing boiled crawfish right before we left to go to our new boat.

And there is nothing that this Sunny Sailor loves more than boiled crawfish! Be prepared to have your mouth water!

Joe Fincher, Eddie, and Jimmy Fincher

First there was Jimmy Fincher’s crawfish boil.  Jimmy worked with Eddie as a firefighter for many years both in New Orleans and in Baton Rouge area.  That man can cook some yummy seafood! We had crawfish, crabs and there was even some pineapple in the boil.  Never had it before but it was delicious!!

Abita Strawberry Beer

And in my opinion, there is NOTHING better with crawfish than an Abita Strawberry Beer.  A good cold one to go with the tasty potatoes, corn, mushrooms, garlic and of course the crawfish itself.  DELISH!

Then on Mother’s Day we traveled to Brusly, Louisiana for the Annual Mother’s Day Crawfish boil hosted by Dana and Tommy Gauthreaux.  We always know when Tommy is cooking, it’s going to be amazing.  That Cajun man has some mad culinary skills!   And it was great to spend some time with my closest friends and family too. I remember my daughter, Cassi, telling me after living in New York for years, is that one of her favorite  things about southern men is how involved they are in cooking, child-rearing, and family. What a treasure to have fathers so involved!

There are  some good people in Louisiana and although we may not miss the state, we will dearly miss the people.

People in this area come together with food as our motivation, but it really is the gathering of the folks that make us the happiest.

Some of them we have known a lifetime, some of them we have met in the last few years.  But our deep love make them all not just our friends, but our southern family.  Family seems to be the only word that can describe a friendship as strong and unwavering as this is.

That’s our grandson, Desmond.  He was the inspiration for my children’s book, Desmond Digs Dinosaurs and thankfully, along my son Trey and his wife Briana (truly another daughter to me) were there to celebrate the Mother’s Day holiday.  How blessed I am!

As we sail around the islands, we will never forget our home.  And until we return, Laissez les bons temp rouler!
