Flying High

I started doing aerial silk after seeing one of my FAVORITE people Annie Dike, of Have Wind Will Travel  doing silk on her sailboat.  I thought that that would be an awesome way to stay in shape when in a confined space.  After one class at with Amanda, at Above Ground Aerial Arts, I was HOOKED!  Of course, my instructor made it look so dang easy and it was NOT!  It took this 54 year old woman (age at the time of first class) almost 5 months before I could even get off the ground.  There was a whole lot of grunting and not much climbing in the beginning!

And in case you want MORE BACK STORY,

I have been a dancer, gymnast and even made it to a 3rd degree blackbelt in Taekwondo (about 10 years ago).  All of those activities WRECKED by body and I needed Rotator Cuff Surgery to repair the torn ligaments in my left shoulder.  So of course it makes perfect sense to beginning aerial silk just 4 months after my surgery by Dr Kevin Darr!  He is an excellent orthopedic surgeon that really took into account my activity level and did everything he could to make sure I could do just about anything!

Dr Darr is also the doctor that performed my 2016 Total Hip Replacement (more evidence of Body Wrecking!).  I sold my dance studio because  I wasn’t sure if I could continue that strenuous line of work.  Again, I was amazed at what  a great job he did on my surgery and just 4 months after my THR, I was back doing SILKS!   I  couldn’t believe it myself!

I guess I have to thank my amazing parents for always making me believe I could do anything.  Thanks, Mom and Dad!

I am truly blessed to have a human form that is still able to do what it does.  Maybe a little slower, maybe taking more effort, but at 57, I am still kicking it!
